Ecco Le Marche

It’s that time of the year, again!! My favourite season, if we can consider it a season per se. I’m speaking of Carnival!!!! As we mentioned last year when speaking about Cicerchiata, in Le Marche the Carnival tradition is quite widespread, hence you can basically find some sweet dolci everywhere! But bear in mind: frying is the keyword!

This year we speak about another dish that has a funny name: Arancini. If you are familiar with Sicily, you may have heard this name before, but BE CAREFUL, this has nothing to do with Arancini from our region 😉 Complicated? Well, let’s skip to the recipe prepared by Mamma Graziella and you’ll see that it is not so difficult!

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 40 g of sunflower oil
  • 200 g of milk (warm)
  • 500 g of flour
  • baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar
  • 250 g of sugar
  • 1 lemon, grated peel
  • 2 oranges, grated peel

In a bowl mix the flour with the baking powder and the sugar.
Aside in another larger bowl break the eggs and mix them with the warm milk and the sunflower oil. Add the flour little by little.
When a firm dough is formed, continue to knead it with your hands. Let it rise for about half an hour.

You can now prepare the filling. Mix well the sugar and the grated peel of the oranges and lemons. Divide the dough in two parts and form a rectangle of 3mm thickness. Put the filling, and be careful to leave a little space on the edges, roll the pastry and cut into slices the arancini.

Prepare the oil in a pan and fry them until they are golden brown on all sides.

Enjoy them and have fun!
